How To Master Local Internet Marketing In Five Stages

-----------------

This month I have been doing a 4 week intensive teleclass series with 15 attorneys on every aspect of getting clients online via a national firm that specializes in law firm marketing. One of the big questions the attorneys wanted answered was how to rank well for local keywords and get local traffic to their website. Well here is what I told them that you can use.

Most law practices are not interested in a national market. More firms are interested in a statewide market with local. Even more firms are targeting a regional or local market. So how can you really hone in on a local market with Internet marketing? There are essentially five basic steps in getting positioned well for local internet marketing:

  • You have to determine your local keywords – back to that again with keyword research which is one of the things I harp on constantly he says with a grin.
  • Write content to those local keywords with good SEO that will cause you to rank well in the search engine results.
  • Get one way links from other local sites to your site. If you can’t get one way links then reciprocal will have to do.
  • Get on Google Local (now called Google Maps), Yahoo Local, MSN Live, and maybe some of the local yellow page sites or local portal type sites for your area. A portal type site for your area is likely owned by the newspaper, TV or radio stations but there can be others.
  • Be sure you put your name, firm name, address, phone on the bottom “footer” of your web page. Do be sure it is in text and not in an image so the search engines can read it as text. You also might want to put a brief slogan like “Serving Tampa Bay” that is relevant to your regional market.
  • Here is where you go to get listed at no charge:

    Google Local

    Yahoo Local

    MSN Live Local

Are you looking for a simple "how to" article on getting listed on Google Local? For an article that will tell you exactly how to do it click here now.

If you want to get listed on Google Local, Yahoo Local and MSN Live Local and other local search opportunities on the internet then you could click here now (be sure to see the bottom of the article for the other articles in the series).

If you want a little more in depth understanding on local Internet marketing than what I have written here then click here now.

Dr. Wilson’s webpage on local internet marketing is a good thing to review. Dr. Wilson is one of the most respected folks on the web. His eBook is a bit dated having been written in 2005 but it covers a lot of good ground including the fundamentals. His eBook on local internet marketing is $13.95 - you can see the table of contents on this page as well. Click her now for this information.

Another issue to consider is if you are not locked into a domain name now or considering a domain name change soon you can use local words in your website address. Like www.YourCityLawyerSite.com for example or www.YourCountyElderLaw.com or www.YourStateEstatePlanning.com. Lastly you certainly want to put your address on your "contact us" page on your site and have copy that writes to the local keyword you are most interested in.
