In this issue:

Twitter? Facebook? LinkedIn?

-----------------

Attorney Warren Redlich emailed me after last month’s newsletter. He wants you all to know the following:

We have a website - town-court.com. It's a directory of traffic and criminal courts. There's a free "club" for lawyers. It includes a listing in the lawyer directory (town-court.com/lawyers.php) and the ability to write articles in the article directory.

The page to register is here: http://www.town-court.com/lawyer/register/

After registering, lawyers have to fax me their letterhead so I can verify that they really are attorneys and make sure it's not identity theft.

Thanks, Warren

Now there is a way to get more traffic to your website that can convert to clients if you are involved in criminal defense or traffic courts. Can’t beat the price at free.

Since my offer last month to you I have been doing a good number of complimentary 20-30 minute consults with attorneys on what they could do to improve their website. Now mind you I don’t build websites or sell any of the technical services necessary to build websites. So I am unbiased and objective. Everyone has found them of value and now they are better educated consumers in the matter. The offer remains open.

Twitter, Twitter and Twitter. Are you sick of hearing about Twitter? Surely there is nobody left who has not heard about Twitter? Well that said I have a lot of value for you on my Twitter page if you review my profile page/updates page on Twitter. I am on Twitter here:

I am not a heavy Twitter user myself and the big question is do you belong on Twitter? My answer is yes, no and maybe. It would depend on your practice area and if you like micro blogging. Yes, that is what Twitter is really. It is a micro blog. Want to know more then go to the link below for more details on micro blogging:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micro-blogging

Twitter gets a huge amount of traffic and people can search on Twitter for what they are looking for like legal topics. Also you can get people who “follow you” and get everything you post to Twitter so that is much like email marketing or newsletters. Do you want referrals from other attorneys? If so you would want to focus on relationships with other attorneys on Twitter and follow them. Will Twitter last for the long term? Well, hard to say. The odds are most likely if not certainly at this point. Sure it has the looks of a fad and there will always be a segment of the market that likes micro blogging. Sure there will be fall outs in the over 100 micro blogging sites existing now and Twitter is not likely to be one of those. Additionally, Twitter does enable you to have a link back to your website which is a good thing as well. I do notice each time I post to Twitter I get more followers. Give my Twitter site a look. Maybe I should give it more of my time he says with a smile.

Should you do Facebook or LinkedIn? Well, there you go. Another case of it depends. That said I would say LinkedIn would be the best if you were going to dip your toe into the water or put time into just one social networking site for most practice areas. Why LinkedIn? Because the expressed purpose of the site is to build business for everyone on the site. It is very good for practices that want to get referrals from businesses or other attorneys. In fact I can imagine some business folks wondering why you don’t have a LinkedIn site so they can check you out more. Here are links to my LinkedIn and Facebook pages:
